ABOUT US
Kerri Fitzgerald, M.D. grew up in Northwest Ohio and attended the University of Dayton where she received her BS degree in Pre-Medicine in 1994. She spent 2 years working as a health director for the Ohio Migrant (Farmworker) Head Start Program before pursuing her medical training at the Medical College of Ohio (now the University of Toledo) where she earned her degree in 2001. She completed her Pediatric residency training at the Children's Hospital of Pittsburgh in 2004 and fellowship training in Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine at Children's Mercy Hospital in Kansas City in 2007. During her years of medical training, she continued to stay active in providing health care to migrant farmworkers and internationally in the Caribbean and Central America.
Following medical training, Dr. Fitzgerald worked for several years as a Neonatologist in the Seattle area and at Madigan Army Medical Center, where her husband was serving as a neurosurgeon in the US Army. Upon moving to Bellingham, she took a break from active practice to focus on her family and re-evaluate her career goals. Inspired by both personal and professional exposure to acupuncture, she pursued and completed training in Medical Acupuncture at the Helm's Medical Institute in 2011. She has been a Medical Acupuncturist in Bellingham since 2017. She also works as a first assistant in spine surgery, which provides her with a deep understanding of neuroanatomy and the care of patients with neck and back problems.
Dr. Fitzgerald has great appreciation for the ability of acupuncture to help manage medical problems that are often evasive or incompletely treated by Western medicine. Her training and time working for the U.S. Military also exposed her to the use of acupuncture to treat pain and anxiety/PTSD in Active Duty personnel. She recognizes that acupuncture is another technique to improve her patients' health and well-being. Her particular interests are in the management of non-surgical back pain and in cancer treatment symptoms, but she enjoys the opportunity to help her patients manage any medical problem with acupuncture as either a complement or alternative to Western approaches.
“I have been treated multiple times by Dr Fitzgerald. Recently, I was limping and having difficulty swimming due to a knee injury. Dr. Fitzgerald treated me with acupuncture in the afternoon, and by the next day I was pain free and back to my normal active self. In the past she has also treated me during exam week for stress and insomnia, which helped greatly. Dr. Fitzgerald creates a wonderful relaxing experience. I highly recommend her if you are considering acupuncture.”
